Message from Commander Robert Meyer

I’m honored and excited to serve as Post Commander of American Legion Matawan Post 176!

I joined Post 176 in 2013, and since then, served as vice commander of the post.

I have been involved in a number of charitable collections and causes as a member, including the sale of poppies every Memorial Day and events for veterans at the Menlo Park Veterans Memorial Home.

In 2020 with the support of Post 176, the Masons, the Sons of the American Revolution, and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, I participated in a food drive in Matawan to help people struggling from being out of work from the pandemic. This ten week event was very successful and helped numerous families in need.

I look forward to serving the community with my fellow Legionnaires, and am confident that the members of Post 176 can accomplish anything!

Donations for Homeless Veterans

Post 176 is proud to support the Woman’s Club of Matawan in their collections for OPERATION CHILLOUT, a mobile outreach for homeless veterans.

OPERATION CHILLOUT is New Jersey’s oldest (and only) all-volunteer mobile outreach for homeless veterans, men and women, on mission since December 21, 2000. Its motto is “no borders-no boundaries.” Its mission is to respond to the crisis of homelessness with direct compassionate actions.

The Woman’s Club of Matawan is collecting the following items for homeless veterans: socks, thermal underwear, zipped hooded sweatshirts, knit caps, gloves, sleeping bags, backpacking tents and gift cards.

If you are interested in supporting this cause, please contact Post 176 through this website to make arrangements to drop off your donation(s).
